CHRISTMAS 2009

In 1993, the First Presbyterian Church founded the Little Falls Community Outreach Corporation.  This organization, housed in the church building, provides various kinds of assistance to children and families in the Little Falls area.

Among the programs offered by Outreach are the following:

AL-ANON offers understanding, help, and support to families and friends of problem drinkers.  The program is adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous and is based on the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and Twelve Concepts of Service.  The group meets on Wednesdays at 8 P.M.

BANANA SPLITS  provides in-school small-group weekly counseling sessions for elementary-school children whose parents are separated, divorced, incarcerated, or deceased.

IN-SCHOOL COUNSELING SERVICES provides individual counseling for students from kindergarten through grade 12 as requested by parents, teachers, and/or school principals.

EVENING COUNSELING SERVICES provides counseling services for individuals, couples, and families.

E.A.P. (EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM) offers help to employees of the Little Falls Hospital.

IN-SCHOOL/AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING provides after-school tutoring for fourth- and fifth-grade students at Benton Hall Academy.  The tutoring is done by a certified teacher or a teacher’s aide.  In addition, this program offers tutoring both before and after school for middle-school students as well as additional tutoring through the Little Falls YMCA.

LFCO LENDING LIBRARY lends materials through school libraries to teachers, counselors, and administrators in the Little Falls School District.  All books, magazines, and videos deal with the mental/physical/emotional well-being of children and young people.

SCHOOL NURSE ASSISTANCE, at the recommendation of school nurses, provides eyeglass exams, emergency dental and medical treatment, prescriptions, and school supplies as needed for students from kindergarten through grade twelve.

WOMEN’S SHARE GROUP meets every other week on Thursday evenings for a chance to share concerns and joys and to discuss pertinent readings and books.
