Working with children and young people is one of our church’s highest priorities.  During the first part of our worship service, before they leave for Sunday School, they are invited to the front of the sanctuary for a short story and object lesson from our pastor.  This children’s sermon coincides with the church school program for the day.  During church school, the program follows a “rotational model,” with the children rotating from station to station.  While one group is learning the lesson, another group does relevant art work, and still another is in the kitchen “cooking up” something that also pertains to the lesson.

While the numbers of our youth group vary from year to year, the enthusiasm and program opportunities do not.  Our young people are involved with the youth from other churches in the Presbytery and also invite other young people from the community to join our group.  The youth group meets twice a month on Sunday evenings for a time of fun and fellowship.  All members have learned the art of puppetry and often use their developing talents to make presentations during worship on Sunday mornings.

The highlight of our high school age youth is the annual trip to Delaware.  While there, they engage in a variety of home repair projects, typically recovering roofs and building ramps for the handicapped.  The week includes ample time for play at the beach and shopping in the city of Rehoboth.  Our youth have also gone to Washington D.C. to work in local soup kitchens and have spent multi-faith weekends in New York City, where they visited a Jewish temple and a Mosque and worshipped on Sunday morning at the Riverside Church.
