The Walter and Belle L. Becker Fund
In the 1990s First Presbyterian received a sizeable gift from the estate of Walter and Belle Becker. The congregation spent time in prayer, reflection, and discussion about what to do with this money, which was donated for unrestricted use. The result was the creation of the Becker Fund. All but a small percentage of the interest from the investments made with this bequest is used for seed money and grants to non-profit organizations seeking to serve the humanitarian needs of others both locally and around the world. In addition, two scholarships are awarded annually to graduating high-school seniors who are members of Little Falls churches and have excelled academically and in service to their church and community.
In an average year, the Becker Fund disburses about $60,000 in scholarships and grants. An up-to-date list of organizations, projects, and programs we support is available in the church narthex. Some causes that have received continuing support are listed below:
